“Your Computer Is Infected — Call This Number Now!”

Why You Shouldn’t Panic—and Who to Call Instead

We’ve seen a sharp rise in a specific kind of tech support scam affecting our residential clients: you're casually browsing the web when suddenly—

🔊 A loud voice blares through your speakers,

❗A scary warning flashes on your screen,

📞And you’re told to call a toll-free number immediately for "Microsoft support."

But here is the truth:

It is fake. It is a scam. And your computer is not infected at all.

At Honorbound IT, we see this frequently with our Residential Protection Plan clients. And here is the best part:

They do not panic. They do not call a stranger.

They call us—because they KNOW we have their back.

What’s Happening?

This is a classic tech support scam that hijacks your browser. It is designed to scare you into:

• Calling a fake support line

• Letting a scammer remotely access your computer

• Paying for fake virus removals

• Giving away personal or financial information

These scareware messages often get triggered by infected ads, sketchy links, or unsafe websites. While the warnings look real, they are 100% bogus.

What To Do If It Happens

If you are in our Residential Protection Plan, just do what our clients do:

Pick up the phone and call us: 877-686-6642.

We’ll walk you through it or clean it up for you—no guesswork, no stress.

But if you are not a member yet, here is what we recommend:

1. Do not call the number. Microsoft, Apple, and other legit companies will never lock your browser or ask you to call them like this.

2. Do not click anything. Even the “close” button might launch something.

3. Force close your browser:

o On Windows: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, find your browser under “Processes,” and click End Task

o On Mac: Press Command + Option + Esc, select your browser, and click Force Quit

4. Clear your browsing session or reset your browser settings before reopening.
